Wow Its Christmas 2021 .. where on earth is the time going, I thought we would be living in space by now…
This is the second year we are not going abroad for the festive season. After mum died, the thought of being here without her was not an option and way too painful so we took dad away for Christmas. Sadly dad passed away and I could not actual cope with anything to do with Christmas.
So we went to the sun, the Canarais every year, up until last year, where that was not an option to go any where. I decided I could either embrace and enjoy or wallow, so I accepted and loved every minute of it and this year , I decorated in November this year, my mum would be horrified… My argument, I have had them made by a lovely lady ( Mae & Ivy ) so I have to show them off as long as possible.
They say that time heals and I never thought the pain of losing my family would go , I am an only child, so they were my world. But now as my my lovely friend said to me, you now have to create your future memories at Christmas.
We had some amazing times abroad and loved every holiday. It became our main time away to shut off. However now, as I get older, I appreciate my home, my little family of a mad westie and rugby loving husband as well as a few amazing friends. Christmas now is me starting to appreciate them at Christmas and the festive season.
The Christmas lights, the food, the present, is just a warm feeling. My friend always tried to help me embrace and she did achieve this couple years ago, but I couldn’t break that cycle of going abroad.
So one thing that came out of the pandemic was breaking that cycle of going away at Christmas.
As I sit here at OMG 47 … I finally feel that I can appreciate the important things in life, that Christmas can be lovely at home
that as time goes on, we can heal and enjoy the new memories we make.
I know it may, never feel that it will get better, your heart will always be broken, but you can mend bits and enjoy life again..
Christmas can be lovely again…
